Stool Upholstery Workshop – The Highlights

On Friday 18th June 2021 we hosted our first stool workshop which is one of our brand-new courses. What an amazing day we all had. All of the months of planning through these challenging few months have been absolutely worth it.

I’m honoured to have taught five lovely people how to create their amazing pieces of furniture, and how well they did learning new skills. From learning to use a sewing machine for the first time to make single piping, and using their staple gun to attach elasticated webbing.

It was brilliant to be surrounded by such wonderful people

I loved the energy they all had to learn a new skill. They were so enthusiastic to take a day away from everyday life, making a piece of furniture using their very own hands.

What new skills will you develop?

You don’t need to have any experience to join our upholstery workshop. Don’t be afraid if you aren’t very practical or have no creative streak because we will teach you everything step by step and be there to help you all the way.

Our Client’s thrived throughout the workshop because they could see the physical progress they made when their creation started coming together and loved the instant satisfaction they got from every step taken.

Lots of new skills were learnt during the workshop including:

-How to make an upholstered seat using techniques like applying and stapling foam, wadding, hessian, and elasticated webbing.

-They were taught how to measure and template their fabric for the seat, piping and borders.

-Making fabric piping and side panels and how to attach them to their stools.

-Painting legs if this was part of the design. Finish and fix the legs to their stool.

Client’s Story

Are you feeling anxious about having a go yourself? Would you rather have a try with an expert at hand to guide you through the process?

Why don’t you come and try it out for yourself at our upholstery workshop? The benefits are all the tools and materials are provided for you to make a piece of furniture in a safe environment. You will be provided with full training by Emma an experienced upholsterer, who started it out as a hobby. This means that you get an opportunity to ask all the questions you like from someone who has shared a similar experience.

You will be amazed at the results that you can achieve. Nigel created a new stool for his home learning the new skill of single piping. He had started doing a few small projects at home but wanted to have a go with an expert, in a safe environment where he could ask questions, grow his confidence & skills. The end result was brilliant, and he shared some kind words about his experience.

“Had a fantastic time on the footstool workshop. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Lots of new skills learned and I ended up with a new piece of furniture that I am really proud of. Thanks, Emma, for a brilliant experience”.

This is playing in style for creative grown-ups eager to have a fun escape from the pressures of everyday life.

We’ve designed a workshop so you can have this experience, to make and upholster a stool so that it has the design and purpose you want it to have. The course is designed for complete beginners. You will have a taster into the world of upholstery and learn about the basic tools and materials needed to start your upholstery journey.

If you would like to learn a new skill, this is an opportunity to make an item of furniture to treasure forever, and a reminder of the fun that we can have when we tap into our creative side. Our next stool workshop is Wednesday – Thursday 14th-15th July or 11-12th August, you can book your space on our here and see the website for future dates.
