Why should you start an evening class in 2023?

Studying in the evening is a great way to pass the cold, dark nights and an excellent opportunity to learn a new skill, language or maybe even develop a hidden talent, as well as make new friends and socialise with like minded people.

This is how I started my journey into the world of upholstery over 9 years ago. We were at the point of needing furniture for our newly renovated house. We had blown all of our budget on the boring stuff like windows, plumbing, plastering and electrics. I wanted some beautiful old pieces of furniture to finish our home off but I didn’t have the patience to wait and save the money up. So I looked for alternative ways. I’ve always loved to learn and found a night class in upholstery in Manchester. So it meant I could continue to work during the day.

Evening courses can be a great ‘taster’ experience for someone who may be interested in changing direction in their career, while still allowing them to work in their current job. They are perfect for people with busy lives as there is a lower level of commitment involved compared to studying full-time in college, with courses generally running once a week for a set period of time.

After I completed my first project which was an old wingback chair. Looking back now I probably should have chosen a slightly easier piece of furniture to start my learning but I don’t make my life easy, and always up for a challenge. I got hooked and signed up for another course. Take a look back at this blog where I’ve shared my favourite things about upholstery and why I started it as a hobby.

Exciting news

So the reason for today’s blog is to share with you some exciting news. In January 2023 we will introduce a night class. An opportunity for you to come and have a taster into the world of upholstery.

Our upholstery workshops are designed for you to turn up and enjoy the whole experience. We’ve taken all the initial pain away for you if you are wondering what sort of project to bring, how long it will take you to complete or what type of fabric to buy. This is all included in the cost of the workshop, all you have to do is decide what you would like to make and what colour fabric you would want

We show you how to use all the different tools and materials you will use to make your furniture, and you have a handy little information pack to take it all away in. So you can get on and enjoy the experience of making and creating.

Our upholstery workshops are designed to teach you different upholstery techniques and skills – like deep buttoning or piping. Some people choose to come to a workshop because they want one piece of furniture for their home and they don’t take it beyond that. Others come to more than one because they want to learn different techniques, and ask questions about how they could use these skills on future projects. Learning upholstery is a journey, it takes practice and time, you also have to get comfortable doing it on your own and at your own pace.

Evening upholstery workshops

There are four different upholstery workshops to choose from. The time they take to complete depends on the design and techniques, the more complex the longer the workshop will take to complete. They range in length from 1 – 3 evenings. The workshop will take place on a Tuesday evening 6-9pm.

Notice board – 1 evening

Double Pleat Design workshop – 2 evenings

Piping Design workshop – 3 evenings

Deep Buttoned Stool or Small Footstool – 2 evenings

Deep Buttoned Bench / Large Footstool – 3 evenings

Crate workshops – 2 evenings

So check out our new evening upholstery workshops from January 2023 dates are on the event calendar. Take this opportunity to make your ‘fresh start’ by learning what you have always wanted to learn and being who you have always wanted to be.
