Top 7 questions answered – what Isobel thinks of her upholstery workshop experience
Interested in crafts and wanting to find a new skill to turn your hand to? Meet Isobel Bailey, one of our recent workshop participants, who came and joined one of our Stool workshops.
Tell us a little bit about yourself Isobel?
I’m 37, married, with two daughters aged 4 and 8 and I work full-time night shifts so don’t have much time for myself!
Why did you decide to do an upholstery workshop?
I’ve always had an interest in making and DIY and have done most of the work and decorating in our home. I’m practical and logical so I like things to have a purpose. My husband booked the upholstery course as a Christmas present and it was definitely one of his better gifts!
What did you want to get out of the workshop?
I’ve never done upholstery before but knew I’d enjoy it as it’s a combination of skills I’ve taught myself over the years and at the end you have a piece of practical furniture for your home.
What did you enjoy most about the experience?
Emma was patient and skilful in her teaching and passed on pearls of her extensive knowledge in an easy to follow way. I met some lovely ladies on the day and had a great laugh all whilst being supplied with cups of tea!
By the end of the day I’d finished up with a beautiful footstool and an overwhelming sense of pride that it could easily pass for something professionally made.
How did you feel after the experience when you saw your furniture at home?
I couldn’t tell enough people about the footstool I’d made. People have come to my house and said “I like your footstool” and I tell them immediately I made it. This workshop is one of it’s own. I’ve never come across this kind of workshop before. To come home with something you’ve made and really focussed on for the full day and had a great time with just enough people it’s really special.
Did you enjoy being involved in the design process?
It was absolutely fantastic. The communication leading up to the day was brilliant It was such a lovely relaxed, friendly environment in a beautiful setting.
Would you recommend this experience and why?
