Do you love to learn new skills? Natasha does, find out why
Do you love being in your home? Do you want your home to look like no one else’s?
Do you want your home to have your style and vision, and to be filled with furniture that you’ve either learnt to make or put your own stamp on.
One of our latest upholstery workshop client’s Natasha does. We found out a bit more about her and why she loves to learn.
Tell us a little bit more about you.
I live in Blackburn with my three lovely dogs. I retired from a 30 year career in the police service. I love to be outside in nature and I like to learn especially anything crafty, working with different materials and experimenting with different things. I realised I need creativity in my life and have been exploring different ways in which I can.
I’m a home bird at heart and love to be in it. It’s where I am most happy. I recently bought a 1930 house that needs renovating and I’m looking forward to putting my stamp and style on it. I love to go round charity, vintage and independent shops looking for individual and unique items.
Why did you decide to do an upholstery workshop and what did you want to get out of it?
I’ve grown up around creativity, there isn’t anything my mum couldn’t put her hand to, and I have a similar philosophy. I will always have a go first. I’ve learned a bit of upholstery from watching you tube videos but I wanted an in person experience. I wanted to be able to ask questions, and have access to an expert. Upholstery is a skill that I’ll be able to use on lots of projects in the house.
What did you enjoy most about the experience?
I truly enjoyed the whole experience. There wasn’t one part of the day that I didn’t enjoy. I loved the calming atmosphere of the chapel. It was such a beautiful space to work in. The experience and expertise that Emma provided was invaluable, to answer any questions. She also made me go back and redo parts of the bench that weren’t quite right. If I had been at home doing it myself I would have just carried on and regretted it later. I completed the workshop with a quality piece of furniture that I am truly proud of. I was completely fulfilled by the end of the day.
How did you feel after the experience when you saw your furniture at home?
I was absolutely thrilled to see the bench in situ. It’s in my hallway, we sit on it daily to put our shoes on and the dogs have also claimed a spot. I can’t wait to get my hallway decorated so the bench will take pride of place. I’ve had friends visiting specifically to see my new bench and they were very impressed with it.
Do you have any other projects that you would like to work on?
Since leaving the workshop I know I need upholstery in my life. I’ve been searching for the different upholstery tools I need. I’m in the process of having my garage made into a dedicated work area so I have somewhere to do my different projects that are on the go.
I like the rooms in my home to have a dedicated purpose so I know I have somewhere to leave a project and can come back to it when I want to. I’ve got lots of upholstery projects in the pipeline and looking forward to starting them.
My journey of learning doesn’t stop here. I’ve got a lampshade, glass fusion and Jesmonite workshop planned for later in the year.
