Is a table just a table?
What makes a house a home? It’s the memories, the feelings, the shared experiences, the laughter. This week we asked you what made your house a home.
For me personally what makes our house a home is the walls full of pictures, memories that I can look back on. We have objects and ornaments that we have brought back from holidays or family days out that we can tell stories about when we look back at them. We have made and bought furniture together that we now share. Our home is full of pieces that we have an emotional connection with and a life experience.
Like our dining table picture. Years ago Dave and I made this with my Dad. We scoured salvage yards for the wooden planks, sanded and polished, used an old table base as a structure. This was one of the first things we made for our home. It’s now a place where we spend many hours sharing meals and playing games with family and friends. I didn’t know back then we would be making these pieces for our clients to enjoy.
This week we asked you what made your house a home, sharing your stories around your dining room table, these are our favourites:
“Our table is from bespoke industrial reclaimed wood, it was delivered just in time for Christmas and friends and family have been complimenting them over the festive period. It’s a great feeling knowing we have made them a custom piece furniture that will be used and cherished for many years to come.” – Yvonne
“What makes a home for me us when aspects of every room make me smile and anyone feels they can relax when visiting ❤️” –shecouldsewshedid
“[Thanks to Emma and her dad] Our family table is the focal point of our busy household… my busy teenagers, their friends and my friends all love sitting at our table, playing board games, chilling, snacking, dining, singing – we love it! Emma’s attention to detail is exceptional and her Dad’s craftsmanship is outstanding… love it.” -The JR’s in Copenhagen
