Recently, Sarah Smithson had the pleasure of participating in an upholstery workshop designed to enhance wellbeing, confidence, and creativity. She shared her experience with us.
Creative Team Building Workshop in Cheshire
As the CEO of Stick ‘n’ Step a charity, our aim is to enable, inspire and support children with cerebral palsy and their families. We believe everyone can learn and grow, no matter where they’re starting from.
But despite that belief, when I first showed up for the upholstery workshop, I still had the initial fear that I might not be able to do it or keep up. This workshop not only challenged my initial fears but also led to a transformative experience that I would like to share.

Looking back, the whole workshop was a joy from start to finish. There wasn’t any part of the experience that I didn’t enjoy – including networking with other people that I hadn’t met before. The equipment was very easy to use after excellent, clear instruction.
The venue itself is stunning and creates a very relaxed atmosphere, where you can forget the stresses of your everyday life. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind and learn a new skill that I wouldn’t have thought possible.
Seeing what I have accomplished has given me the confidence to make more time for myself, and to use that time to be creative. Before the workshop, I didn’t think of myself as a creative person, but now I have proven to myself that I am.
Besides the confidence boost, the biggest plus was how much the workshop improved my overall wellbeing.
I didn’t think about anything other than the task in hand throughout the whole period of the workshop, which was a first for me!
By the end, I’m excited to say I made a beautiful notice board that I proudly hung in my office. Every time I see it, I think: ‘I made that!’
