Bench Workshops

This is a two-day workshop designed to give you an introduction to the craft. You will learn about the tools and materials needed for upholstery. The workshops are perfect if you want a taster into the world of upholstery and unleash your creative side.

You will be taught how to make one of our beautiful benches. The benches are perfect for a variety of uses such as, dining table seating, hallway, utility room, conservatory, or window seating.

The size of the benches can be either a 4ft or 5ft size and are 120 / 150cm wide x 40cm deep x 50cm high.

For each bench you will be provided with the frame, legs and upholstery materials. You will get to choose from three types of leg either industrial hairpin or splayed steel legs or A frame bench ends.

You will learn to.

• Make an upholstered seat where you will be taught techniques like applying and stapling foam, wadding, hessian, and elasticated webbing.
• Template your fabric, including measuring, cutting, stapling, and cutting round corners.
• Make fabric piping and side panels and how to make and apply buttons too if this is part of your design.
• Finish and fix the legs to your bench.

We keep the class size to no more than six people so you will get lots out of the day.

We supply you with all the tools & materials needed you just need to bring your own fabric suitable for upholstery use.

For the 4ft bench you will need 1.5m and for the 5ft bench you will need 2m.

The workshops are held in our beautiful workshop, a converted Methodist Chapel, in Scholar Green nestled in the peaceful Cheshire countryside.

The course will start at 9am finishing at approximately 4-4.30pm. Hot drinks are included throughout the day. You will need to bring your own packed lunch with you.

You can attend the workshop and make the bench for yourself or buy the experience day for a creative loved one. If you are buying as a gift please leave their name in the ‘additional information section’ at the check out.

*Shared handheld tools are cleaned between use.
