Embracing Creativity at a Team Building Workshop: Jenny Allcock’s Journey

A Glimpse into Creating Adventures

Creating Adventures is a registered charity dedicated to supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities. Founded in 2016 by Jenny Allcock, the organisation was established to address the lack of support available for adults with additional needs. Jenny recognised that while children receive ample assistance, adults often face long days with limited opportunities for engagement and personal growth.

Initial Expectations: A Journey Beyond the Comfort Zone

As Jenny prepared for the upholstery team building workshop, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves. “I was slightly nervous as I’m not at all artistically creative,” she shared. However, she looked forward to spending time with like-minded professionals, hoping to find inspiration and connect with others who share her passion for supporting adults with additional needs.

Highlights of the Workshop Experience

Reflecting on the workshop, Jenny found it challenging to pinpoint specific moments that stood out.

“There were so many engaging aspects,” she explained. “I loved watching the others, especially Emma, choose colours and create their pieces. The time spent chatting, particularly at the end over food and drink, was incredibly relaxing. It felt like a true achievement to create something beautiful together.”

The team building workshop offered far more than a fun day out, it created space for connection, conversation, and creativity.

A Perfect Learning Environment

When asked about the workshop’s environment, Jenny had nothing but praise. “Everything was perfect,” she stated, highlighting how the venue, materials, and tools all contributed to a supportive learning experience.

Discovering a New Passion

Participating in the workshop was a transformative experience for Jenny. “I learned that I enjoy creative crafts when I have the time,” she reflected. The workshop not only allowed her to explore her creative side but also served as a therapeutic outlet during a stressful time.

Boosting Confidence and Wellbeing

The impact of the workshop on Jenny’s confidence, creativity, and overall wellbeing was profound. “It made me realise I can do it,” she noted. “Though I have so little time for things like this, I loved every moment. It provided me with much-needed time away at a time when I was feeling stressed, which was incredibly beneficial for my wellbeing.”
