From a Birthday Gift to a New Beginning: Ros’s Journey Into Creativity
How one workshop in 2021 sparked confidence, connection and a treasured piece of furniture her family still loves today
A birthday gift that changed more than expected
In 2021, Ros unwrapped a birthday present from her husband — a Crate Workshop at our chapel. She came expecting a fun creative day out… but it turned into something much more meaningful.
Walking into the chapel felt like stepping into a pocket of calm. Soft light, the smell of wood and fabric, the sound of friendly chatter — the kind of warm creative energy that puts you at ease instantly.
Her workshop group was full of friendly faces, each there for their own reasons. But within minutes they were connected by the simple joy of making something with their hands.
“I even made my own buttons…”
Ros often talks about how supported she felt.
“Emma is a fabulous teacher. Everything is explained so well and nothing feels rushed. I even got to make my own buttons — something I never imagined I’d have the confidence to do.”
By the end of the day, Ros walked out of the chapel carrying a beautiful crate she had made herself.
And now?
It’s a treasured piece of furniture in her home — one her son loves to use, which makes it even more special.
Every time she walks past it, she smiles at what she achieved that day.
✨ A day of slowing down
✨ A day of creativity
✨ A day she realised, “I can actually do this.”
A spark that became something bigger
That first workshop didn’t just give Ros confidence — it opened a door.
She found herself wanting to learn more, understand more, and explore what her hands were capable of creating.
And eventually… it led her somewhere unexpected: into the Semper Hopkins team.
Ros now supports workshops, guides guests, and uses her lived experience to reassure beginners that they can do this — even if they walk in with doubt.
Working side by side
Being part of the team brought a new kind of fulfilment — helping others experience the magic she felt back in 2021.
“I would highly recommend this wonderful, relaxing and fun way to spend a day.”
Ros still tells people:
“You walk away with something you’re proud of — and the confidence to give other projects a go. It’s such a relaxing and fun way to spend a day.”
Her story is a reminder of what creativity can unlock: calm, confidence, connection… and sometimes, a completely new beginning.
