How to do your bit for the environment with woollen alternatives
If you have been keeping up with my recent blogs, you will know that a few months ago, I attended my first TEDX talk in Northwich, and I have really been inspired by all of the women which I have seen. One of the TEDX talks which has resonated with me in particular is Sarah Turner and her ‘Magical Material of Wool’ talk.
Sarah Turner creates a range of woollen products from dryer balls, sheep felted soap and laundry balls. These products are a natural solution to the plastic alternatives which are so often used over less harmful options. But why is this necessary?
Plastic does not decompose for over 450 years, meaning any plastic wrapping you will have seen recently will take that long to disappear! Using recycled and biodegradable materials can massively decrease the amount of plastic on landfill- so why not change your options, especially when it comes to homeware.
Using products like wool can be great for upholstery projects due to its extremely hard-wearing fibres which can be bent into themselves 20,000 times over without breaking, compared to cotton which is 3000. This is why it makes such a good material for furniture as it will last for years.
