Why Nigel chose to join us for a Footstool Upholstery Workshop- Q&A with Nigel Keeble
Interested in crafts and wanting to find a new skill to turn your hand to? Meet Nigel Keeble, one of our recent workshop participants, who came and joined one of our Footstool workshops.
Tell us a little bit about yourself Nigel?
Hi. My name is Nigel. Originally from Nantwich but now live in Haslington with my wife Sharon and my daughter Abbie who turned 18 earlier this year. Over the years I have had a variety of jobs, most of which have been in the training industry or involved training to one degree or another. My last business was as a driving instructor for 18years. I love cooking and have over 100 cookbooks and I also enjoy the countryside and walking.
Why did you decide to do an upholstery workshop?
Whilst recovering from a serious car crash I was looking for things to do that would help my recovery. A friend gave me a dining table and chairs to see what I could do with them. I particularly enjoyed the process of reupholstering the chairs. I felt that the upholstery course would offer me the chance to learn new skills, the correct way of doing it and also see if I was any good at it.
What did you want to get out of the workshop?
From the workshop I wanted to see what upholstery was like, learn new skills and see if it had any possibilities for a new direction for me.
What did you enjoy most about the experience?
There was so much to enjoy about the course. The friendly atmosphere created by Emma, the beautiful building, meeting other like minded people, how Emma makes learning straightforward and fun and of course, coming home with a piece of furniture that I’m very proud of.
How did you feel after the experience when you saw your furniture at home?
In a word “great!”. Seeing my furniture at home was fantastic and a very proud moment. The storage crate was the first item that I made with the intention of giving it to Abbie, however, when Sharon saw it she immediately decided that she would have it. So I ended up making another for Abbie.
Did you enjoy being involved in the design process?
Yes. By being involved in the process it helped learn the techniques better and made me feel that I really owned the piece that I had made.
Would you recommend this experience and why?
Absolutely! Emma’s courses are to be recommended to everyone whether it be for an individual or a group. You will be welcomed and feel included in every part of the day, get individual attention when required, learn new skills and have a good laugh at the same time. Also, remember that you will come away with a great piece of furniture that will be a talking point with family and friends alike. I enjoyed my first course so much that I’ve now completed three: Storage crate, stool and deep buttoned footstool.
