Do you find yourself not buying pieces with upholstery because you don’t have the skills to transform them? Or you buy them but you never fix that part!
Upholstery is a great skill to have on your upcycling journey. I often get asked what projects should I choose to start with. Here are five easy upholstery projects you could tackle with some basic skills.
- A lloyd loom or upholstered blanket box
- A chair with drop in seat pad
- Piano or dressing table stool
- Footstool
- A small bench seat
I’ve recommended these upholstery projects beacuse the most important thing is to master the basics, and practice a lot. By starting simple, your knowledge and confidence will grow. You may then choose to take on more challenging pieces. It’s like learning to ride a bike, you start with a balance bike, you move to stabilisers, and then they get taken off, you may wobble a bit, fall off and then get back on. By choosing an achievable project, you build up the basics skills and you’ll be super proud of your transformation.
