Are you into furniture upcycling? Here are five simple upholstery projects you could tackle with some basic skills
Do you enjoy giving old pieces of furniture a new lease of life? Adding them to your home to add the finishing touches to a room.
Do you love wandering around charity, vintage or antique shops, and auction houses in your spare time looking for your next project?
Do you find yourself not buying pieces with upholstery because you don’t have the skills to transform them? Or you buy them but you never fix that part!
Upholstery is a great skill to have on your upcycling journey. I often get asked what projects should I choose to start with. Here are five easy upholstery projects you could tackle with some basic skills.
- A lloyd loom or upholstered blanket box
- A chair with drop in seat pad
- Piano or dressing table stool
- Footstool
- A small bench seat
I’ve recommended these upholstery projects beacuse the most important thing is to master the basics, and practice a lot. By starting simple, your knowledge and confidence will grow. You may then choose to take on more challenging pieces. It’s like learning to ride a bike, you start with a balance bike, you move to stabilisers, and then they get taken off, you may wobble a bit, fall off and then get back on. By choosing an achievable project, you build up the basics skills and you’ll be super proud of your transformation.
Now you’ve got some tips on what projects to choose, you might want to know about tools. Click here for a free downloadable pdf which details the top 10 tools you need in your upholstery kit.
You can read back on this blog which gives tips on what you need to get started.
